Attracting talents, wherever they are found, remains one of DMR-Fujitsu’s priorities, so its Human Resource Department will be participating in an event this September 21st that will look at Tunisia and its potential for recruiting specialized workers.

Presentations will be given, particularly by the Tunisian ambassador, Mr. Mould Sakri and by a manager from Agence Nationale pour l’Emploi et le Travail Indépendant de Tunisie, Ms. Rym Beltaief. Also, a Tunisian system delivery consultant at DMR-Fujitsu, Mr. Mehdi Mekni, will be telling his story.

Organized by the PÔLE Québec Chaudière-Appalaches, this event will be an opportunity for DMR-Fujitsu to find out more about the Tunisian workforce and its recruitment potential for specialized positions that are hard to fill in Quebec because of the labor shortage.

It is important to remember that, last June, DMR-Fujitsu participated in Journées Québec 2010, a recruitment mission in France held in Paris, and in which many IT service providers from Quebec participated. It also joined a similar mission in Tunisia in February 2008.

Fujitsu Canada is a consulting firm offering business and IT services. The company had deployed Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 and Visual Studio 2008 but wanted expanded reporting, version control, and task management tools.

To gain those capabilities, it adopted Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate and Visual Studio Team Foundation Server 2010. The company expects to improve productivity and application quality with integrated features such as graphical representations of branched code, hierarchical work items with user-defined links, and a historical debugging tool.

In addition, Fujitsu Canada can organize team projects into collections, making it easier to share not only code but also work and version history with customers.

Reporting tools offer rich project metrics, and developers spend less of their time on repetitive tasks so they can concentrate on more creative, productive work.

DMR-Fujitsu finalist for Maurice Pollack Award

As a finalist for the Maurice Pollack Award, DMR-Fujitsu was given a certificate of honor by...

As a finalist for the Maurice Pollack Award, DMR-Fujitsu was given a certificate of honor by Quebec’s Minister of Immigration and Cultural Communities, Ms. Yolande James, at the Quebec Citizenship Awards ceremony, held last May 31 in Montreal.

This is the second consecutive year that DMR-Fujitsu has been a finalist for the Maurice Pollack Award in the Private Sector Businesses or Organizations category. This honorable mention underscores the efforts the company has made to welcome, integrate and promote ethnocultural diversity in the workplace, as well as to promote equal opportunity employment for Quebecers coming from cultural communities and visible minorities.

With close to 20% of its 900 Quebec City employees representing 28 different nationalities, DMR-Fujitsu is aware of the value that cultural diversity plays in Quebec’s economic future. It has a reputation for recruiting and integrating employees coming from immigration, particularly for producing tools to make it easier for them to fit in professionally.

Remember that DMR-Fujitsu has twice won the Entreprise du monde award, once in the 31 employees et plus category and once in the Intégration de la relève category, handed out at the Un monde à faire awards evening organized by Chambre de commerce de Québec.

Since 1997, the Quebec Citizenship Awards—Maurice Pollack Award, Jacques Couture Award, Anne Greenup Award and Charles Biddle Award—have been given by the Government of Quebec to people or businesses and organizations to recognize their commitment and contribution to making Quebec a pluralistic, inclusive society where it is good to live together.

More details are available (in French) on the Quebec Citizenship Awards Web site.

Fujitsu honors environmental organization Carrefour TerraTerre

Last May 20th, the environmental organization Québec Carrefour TerraTerre won the second prize...

Last May 20th, the environmental organization Québec Carrefour TerraTerre won the second prize awarded by the team responsible for environmental affairs at Fujitsu, one of the world’s largest IT service providers. More than 40 environment-related projects conducted by Fujitsu employees around the world were in the running.

To recognize the value of citizens’ initiatives conducted by the company’s employees, the competition took place in two steps. A public online vote, in which 700 Fujitsu employees around the world took part, first helped identify the most interesting projects conducted in the four corners of the globe. Then, a team headed by Fujitsu’s president of environmental affairs in Japan analyzed the candidates’ files to assign them a classification. The combined results of the two steps resulted in the prize being awarded to Carrefour TerraTerre, which actually garnered close to 25% of the votes submitted by employees.

To underscore the winning of this prize, Fujitsu will be giving an honorary plaque to Jean Provencher, founding president of Carrefour TerraTerre and senior management consultant at DMR-Fujitsu. Created in 2007, Carrefour TerraTerre is a not-for-profit organization in the Quebec City area working in the area of sustainable development. Formed of citizens, it has set itself the mission of educating the population about socio-environmental issues and driving concerted social action to change current consumption habits.

DMR-Fujitsu is increasingly making an effort to integrate sustainable development into its operations and activities. It has made goal a reality especially by acting as a partner of Carrefour TerraTerre since its foundation.

Finally, it is worth noting that Fujitsu is now one of the IT industry leaders in the area of sustainable development and social responsibility. For ten years now, it has been listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, which includes the most productive businesses in the world in terms of sustainable development. Also worth pointing out is the fact that Fujitsu was just ranked 5th in Greenpeace’s 2010 Cool-IT Challenge and placed 3rd in Computerworld’s 2009 Green-IT list.

Fujitsu ranks fifth on the Greenpeace Cool IT Leaderboard

In the third edition of its Cool IT Leaderboard, published this April, Greenpeace ranks Fujitsu in fifth place among the major technology companies that have made the biggest efforts to fight climate change.

The environmental organization thus puts the spotlight on Fujitsu’s contribution, through its ability to offer concrete solutions and through the development of devices providing real and delicate measurements of the environmental impact of its products and infrastructure.

The purpose of the Cool IT Leaderboard is to recognize the efforts of electronics industry giants in their fight against climate imbalance. Greenpeace does not note the companies’ products, only the approaches they adopt as corporate citizens.

Greenpeace rates these companies on three criteria: their ability to propose solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, their efforts to reduce their own emissions, and the company’s commitment to respecting the environment.

Fujitsu has taken an ecological approach for many years, both for its processes and its products. This is why Fujitsu launched its “Green IT” label, which will soon be affixed to all qualified products. To earn this label, a product must satisfy criteria related to the manufacturing process, the materials used, recycling and energy efficiency.

The Fujitsu Lean Solutions team has implemented a Lean project in the emergency room at Centre de santé Cloutier-du Rivage. This method has led to reduced wait times, improved customer satisfaction and increased productivity.

The Centre de santé et de services sociaux de Trois-Rivières, which is responsible for Centre de santé Cloutier-du Rivage, wanted to cut down the long wait times for both ambulatory patients and patients on stretchers, curb rising operating expenses and turn around the declining job satisfaction of emergency staff.

Mandated in 2009 to optimize this emergency room’s processes, Fujitsu introduced the Lean Healthcare approach of Fujitsu Lean Solutions, a pragmatic and structured approach based on the Toyota industrial management system, which is recognized worldwide for its efficiency.

Tangible results were produced in less than a year. Wait time was lowered by over 50% and client satisfaction increased from 76% to over 95%. The emergency room at Centre de santé Cloutier-du Rivage is now able to treat up to 40% more people, with no additional staff.

Lean Healthcare is designed to optimize the performance of organizations in the healthcare field, while maintaining respect for individuals. In particular, it leads to elimination of non-value-added activities and reduction of wait and response times. It also takes the patients’ needs, the employees’ quality of life and cost reduction into consideration.

Bravo to the Fujitsu Lean Solutions team, particularly project manager
Bernard Gagnon, his colleagues Jérôme Tanguay and Bastien Roy, and Camil Villeneuve, Vice President of Fujitsu Lean Solutions.
