Fujitsu honors environmental organization Carrefour TerraTerre

Last May 20th, the environmental organization Québec Carrefour TerraTerre won the second prize awarded by the team responsible for environmental affairs at Fujitsu, one of the world’s largest IT service providers. More than 40 environment-related projects conducted by Fujitsu employees around the world were in the running.

To recognize the value of citizens’ initiatives conducted by the company’s employees, the competition took place in two steps. A public online vote, in which 700 Fujitsu employees around the world took part, first helped identify the most interesting projects conducted in the four corners of the globe. Then, a team headed by Fujitsu’s president of environmental affairs in Japan analyzed the candidates’ files to assign them a classification. The combined results of the two steps resulted in the prize being awarded to Carrefour TerraTerre, which actually garnered close to 25% of the votes submitted by employees.

To underscore the winning of this prize, Fujitsu will be giving an honorary plaque to Jean Provencher, founding president of Carrefour TerraTerre and senior management consultant at DMR-Fujitsu. Created in 2007, Carrefour TerraTerre is a not-for-profit organization in the Quebec City area working in the area of sustainable development. Formed of citizens, it has set itself the mission of educating the population about socio-environmental issues and driving concerted social action to change current consumption habits.

DMR-Fujitsu is increasingly making an effort to integrate sustainable development into its operations and activities. It has made goal a reality especially by acting as a partner of Carrefour TerraTerre since its foundation.

Finally, it is worth noting that Fujitsu is now one of the IT industry leaders in the area of sustainable development and social responsibility. For ten years now, it has been listed on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, which includes the most productive businesses in the world in terms of sustainable development. Also worth pointing out is the fact that Fujitsu was just ranked 5th in Greenpeace’s 2010 Cool-IT Challenge and placed 3rd in Computerworld’s 2009 Green-IT list.
