Innovative techno-pedagogical project at Université Laval

Université Laval (UL) has engaged experts from DMR to implement its new digital learning environment (DLE).

The project in which DMR is playing an active role involves in particular working with UL resources to develop the core of the DLE in response to the university's techno-pedagogical needs. To properly deliver phase 1 of the DLE, planned for summer 2010, DMR has made available to the client a team of developers and functional, technology and quality assurance analysts.

The DLE at Université Laval will give over 40,000 potential users a networked workplace that will have a significant and permanent impact on teaching, learning and collaboration processes.

The UL's DLE project is one of the most innovative around because the technologies used rely especially on the Java Oracle ADF 11 environment. The other technologies implemented also pose major challenges, such as the Web Oracle environment, mainly the latest versions of WebLogic and Universal Content Management (UCM).

Universities around the world have made the DLE the core driver of their institutional strategy, particularly because:

•    information technology and communication (ITC) applications can be tailored to training and learning;
•    teachers are expressing a growing interest in the use of course Web sites;
•    the demand for online training is growing;
•    Web 2.0 has emerged onto the scene;
•    the NetGeneration has arrived on campuses.
